What began as a simple commitment during the COVID-19 pandemic evolved into a daily wellness practice that I have maintained for more than five and a half years without missing a single day. My routine consists of climbing the 330 Dundurn stairs four times each day, along with completing 25 push-ups at the top of each climb.

While the number itself is significant, the story is really about the power of consistency, resilience, and mental wellness. Through all weather conditions, personal challenges, and life's ups and downs, this daily ritual has helped me maintain physical health, emotional balance, and a sense of purpose.

I believe the story may resonate with others because it demonstrates how small, consistent actions can create meaningful and lasting change. It's also a positive Hamilton story that highlights one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.

2,000 Days, One Step at a Time: Hamilton's Brandon Dean Reaches Remarkable Dundurn Stairs Milestone

For more than five years, Brandon Dean has climbed Hamilton's iconic Dundurn Stairs every single day, proving that extraordinary achievements often begin with simple daily habits.

On June 29, 2026, Dean celebrated an incredible milestone: 2,000 consecutive days of climbing the Dundurn Escarpment Stairs. What started as a way to stay active during the pandemic evolved into a powerful personal commitment to physical fitness, mental wellness, and self-discipline.

A Daily Routine Built on Consistency

Dean's routine is anything but casual. Every day, he climbs the 326-step staircase four times and completes 25 pushups at the top of each climb. Over 2,000 days, that adds up to approximately 8,000 stair climbs and 200,000 pushups.

The daily workout takes between 30 and 45 minutes, and Dean has maintained the streak through all seasons, weather conditions, and life challenges.

More Than Just Exercise

While gym closures during the COVID-19 pandemic inspired the challenge, Dean says the deeper motivation came from a desire to improve his mental health and overall well-being.

After going through a difficult period marked by depression and unhealthy habits, he discovered that climbing the stairs provided a positive outlet and a sense of purpose. What began as exercise became a daily practice of resilience and self-care.

"It's about showing up for yourself every day," Dean says. "Self-care is important, carving that out for yourself each day."

The Power of Small Habits

Dean's story highlights an important lesson: meaningful change doesn't always come from dramatic actions. Instead, it often comes from small, consistent efforts repeated over time.

His commitment demonstrates how a simple daily habit can improve physical health, strengthen mental wellness, and build the resilience needed to navigate life's challenges.

Looking Ahead

Reaching 2,000 consecutive days has given Dean an opportunity to reflect on what's next. While he plans to continue his stair-climbing routine, he is also considering new adventures and challenges, including the possibility of walking the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in Europe.

Whatever path he chooses, his journey serves as an inspiring reminder that success is often built one day, and one step, at a time.

Brandon Dean's achievement isn't just about climbing stairs. It's a story about perseverance, personal transformation, and the remarkable results that come from showing up for yourself every day.
